Mortal Kombat 11 GamePlay styles in 2023

Mortal Kombat is a fighting game where two players use characters to fight. In MK11, there are now 37 characters and each of them has its playstyle.

If you are a beginner, you might have problems with what Mortal Kombat character to use and how many kinds of play styles are available.

There are many ways to choose a character like you can choose whoever you want and then master the character or choose by a playstyle that you are compatible with.

But every character has its ups and downs meaning they will not give you the same result with different opponents.

1. Balanced

Characters with balanced playstyle are good both in offense and defense. They can handle close and long-range flights. They can handle almost all situations.

But balanced character also has a downside. As they can handle all situations they are pretty much average in every case.

They can’t perform like a close-range character perform in close-range or a long-range character in the long-range.

This playstyle of Mortal Kombat is good against almost all types of playstyle. Meaning you can use this playstyle to fight opponents using different playstyle.

2. Rushdown

Rushdown characters are characters that dominant in close-range combat.

They can overwhelm the opponent in close range and is very good when you are cornered or pressured by your opponent.

These characters use a set of combos and tools to fight opponents in close range.

But these characters are bad in long-range combats.

The characters that go with Rushdown playstyle are

3. Zoners

Zoners are mid to long-range combat characters. They are good at dealing more damage from a distance than close range.

They use weapons or projectiles to fight with opponents while keeping a distance from the opponent.

They can also fight in the short-range. But cannot deal much damage. If the opponent uses a close combat character, then it will be a bad decision to get close to the opponent.

4. Neutral/Spacing/Footsies

These characters use space to do attack and movement.

They use weapons or some sort of projectile for the long and mid-range attacks.

In this playstyle, players try to get close enough to hit the opponent or try to lure the opponent in a range where he/she can hit the opponent. They move back and forth to get in the right range to hit the target.

Another thing players use here is whiff punishing. When an opponent uses an attack, there is a delay before the opponent can do anything else. In that time, you can attack the opponent. The opponent will be unable to defend because of the delay. This is called whiff punishing.

5. Mix-Ups

In this playstyle, players use both low and overhead attacks.

In here, you confuse your opponent by using a different set of low and overhead combo.

Your opponent will be confused about whether they should block an overhead attack or a lower attack. They cannot block both at the same time.

That’s why it is also called 50/50. The reason is you can only guess can’t predict and there is a 50/50 chance of getting it right.

The characters suitable for this playstyle are

  • Sub-Zero

  • Sindel

6. Grapplers

It’s playstyle where you can grab and throw your opponents.

Here, you can use grab to break their guard and do some damage. So, they are effective in front of defensive characters. You can also throw your opponent.

Grapplers are like Rushdown playstyle. Here, you also do close-range attacks than long or mid-range attacks.

7. Trappers

At last, trappers, trappers are characters that use special tools to trap an opponent.

Here, you throw a trap on your opponent or lure your opponent onto the trap.

The trappers are

  • Joker (The Ace of Knaves Variation)
  • Sub-Zero (Avalanche Variation)
  • Erron Black (Locked N’ Loaded Variation)
